I got my first real boyfriend when I was in college. He was a cute redhead who ran the college radio station. He was from a well-to-do family in Orange County. He drove a BMW 2002 and had a car phone in the early 80s when you had to sort of sign in on them like a truck driver on a CB radio. When we started going out I would mention my desire for something - and he would say the sweetest thing.
"We'll ask the nice man and we'll get you one."
